A government official just delivered a wake-up call to everyone living in Lekki. According to Mahmood Adegbite, the Permanent Secretary for Drainage Services and Water Resources, the water you’re pulling from your borehole is likely a health risk.
His words were shocking and direct: residents are “probably drinking ‘shit water’.”
This grim reality, Adegbite explained, is the result of untreated wastewater polluting the underground water supply.
The official stated that the government has a plan to build wastewater treatment facilities to solve the problem and prevent diseases.
This warning comes as Lagos State battles another major challenge: flooding. Adegbite confessed that despite the government’s efforts, more must be done to address the problem, which has been worsened by recent, unexpected heavy rainfall.
What are your thoughts on this warning? Is the government doing enough to address Lekki’s infrastructure challenges?
