Good news for parents in Anambra State! The government has officially banned schools from making pupils write assignments directly in their textbooks. The reason? It’s wasteful and adds unnecessary financial pressure on families.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, announced the new directive, explaining that the goal is to make textbooks reusable, especially for younger siblings who can use them later. The government is also using this opportunity to push for textbooks that are more inclusive and reflect diversity and equality.
The Commissioner issued a stern warning: schools that don’t follow the new rule will face consequences, and parents are encouraged to report any non-compliance.
But that’s not all. The government is also clamping down on lavish graduation parties in nursery and primary schools. According to the Commissioner, these events have become a way for some school owners to financially exploit parents, which she described as being contrary to the mission of making education accessible and affordable.
It’s clear that the Anambra State Government is serious about reining in unnecessary costs and making sure education remains a top priority for its citizens.
