A UK medical tribunal is hearing the case of Dr. Suhail Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist accused of abandoning a patient mid-surgery to have sex with a nurse. The incident reportedly took place at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester.
According to the hearing, Dr. Anjum asked a colleague to monitor the patient while he took a “comfort break.” Instead, he went to another theatre where he was caught in a “compromising position” with a nurse.
Andrew Molloy, representing the General Medical Council (GMC), noted that no harm came to the patient, and the procedure was completed without further issues.
Dr. Anjum admitted to the allegations, calling his behavior “shameful.” He apologized to everyone involved and attributed the incident to a “stressful time” for his family. The hearing is ongoing.
