Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has threatened to sue political activist Deji Adeyanju for alleged defamatory posts on social media.
Obi’s lawyer, Alex Ejesieme (SAN), states that Adeyanju has published “false, malicious, and contrived” statements that damage his client’s reputation. The claims, which date back to 2022, include allegations that Obi diverted Anambra State funds, attempted to bribe Adeyanju, and used religion to manipulate voters. Adeyanju also allegedly called Obi “the leader of a mob” and “a scum.”
Obi’s legal team has demanded that Adeyanju delete the posts, issue a public apology on social media, and publish apologies in three national newspapers. If he fails to do so within seven days, Obi plans to file a lawsuit seeking significant damages and legal costs.
In a Facebook post, Adeyanju welcomed the legal challenge, writing, “I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah.”
