
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has authorized the submission of a bill to the State House of Assembly that would ban same-sex marriage and other practices considered immoral.
The announcement was made by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following the 31st Executive Council meeting. According to Governor Yusuf, the proposed legislation will impose strict legal consequences on individuals found guilty of engaging in or promoting same-sex marriage or related activities.
The governor underscored his administration’s commitment to upholding the values and teachings of Islam and preserving the state’s cultural and religious heritage. The bill specifically prohibits same-sex unions and practices referred to locally as Madugo and Liwadi.
Governor Yusuf stated, “This government is duty-bound to protect the moral integrity of our society.” He also noted his expectation that lawmakers would prioritize the bill, which he described as crucial for the moral and social well-being of Kano State.
