In a significant shift for the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi has announced a major change to the church’s long-standing courtship rules.
Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Kumuyi stated that certain marriage guidelines are not divine commands but rather administrative practices.
Specifically, the General Superintendent addressed a concern from a female member who felt that single ladies were unable to truly know their prospective husbands under the previous rules, which prohibited home visits. Kumuyi, who had previously championed a strict six-month courtship policy, acknowledged that while the rule was meant “to help people to keep away from sin,” it did not fully serve the purpose of helping people make a lifelong decision.
Acknowledging that marriage is a lifelong commitment with eternal implications, he announced that visits during courtship are now permitted.
