The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has sounded an alarm over a recent increase in disruptive passenger behavior at airports, warning that offenders will face severe penalties.
The agency stated that such conduct is “entirely unacceptable within the framework of civil aviation and will not be tolerated.”
In a statement on Monday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, urged passengers to familiarize themselves with civil aviation regulations to avoid sanctions.
The agency emphasized that it will strictly enforce penalties in line with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Part 17), ICAO Annex 17, and its own bye-laws.
FAAN also announced it is reviewing its security protocols to improve the handling and prosecution of offenders. The warning comes after a recent high-profile incident involving a passenger on an Ibom Air flight, who was arrested by Aviation Security personnel and handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
FAAN concluded its statement with an appeal for civility, reiterating that the safety and comfort of all airport users are its top priorities. Any inappropriate behavior will be met with “the full weight of applicable laws and protocols.”
