The ongoing controversy over unpaid bonuses for the Super Falcons has taken a new turn. According to sports analyst Aron, the delay wasn’t due to the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) failure to pay, but rather a disagreement over currency.
On a recent appearance on Arise TV, Aron explained that the NFF offered to pay the players their total allowances—equaling roughly $30,000 per player—in Naira. The players, however, rejected the offer, insisting on being paid in U.S. dollars.
Aron shared what he described as a part of the story that wasn’t being told, quoting the players’ position: “‘We don’t play in Nigeria. What do we want to do in Naira?'” He specifically mentioned Rasheedat Ajibade as one of the players who insisted they would not accept Naira.
The NFF’s reported response was to transfer the money to the CBN for conversion, which Aron stated caused the delay. He argued that the NFF should not be blamed, as they had received instructions from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and had the funds ready to pay in Naira. Aron found the situation “embarrassing” and placed the responsibility for the delay on the players’ refusal to accept the payment.
