
The Nigerian government has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with Ghana after a helicopter crash tragically claimed the lives of two of its ministers and other top officials on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, conveyed the nation’s profound sadness over the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Both were traveling to Obuasi when the accident occurred.
Nigeria’s statement described the crash as a “devastating tragedy” and a great loss of “patriotic and dedicated leaders” for both Ghana and the wider West African region.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the entire government of Ghana,” the statement added, standing in solidarity with Ghana during this time of national grief.
The government also recognized the late ministers’ commitment to public service, highlighting that their contributions to regional security and environmental sustainability will be “greatly missed.” The statement concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its bond with Ghana.
